New Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles has revealed he his looking forward to competing with Tim Howard to be the Toffees' first-choice shot-stopper.

Joel spent last season on loan at the DW Stadium from Atletico Madrid and eventually ousted Ali Al-Habsi as the FA Cup winners' No.1 keeper, but is anticipating a much sterner battle with Howard for the role.

"I am a very ambitious goalkeeper. I can't wait to get started at such a big club," he told the Independent.

"It is a great honour to come here and work with Tim. He is a great goalkeeper and I am sure I will learn a lot from him.

"Obviously we will be competing together and it's the manager's decision at the end of the day [who he chooses]."

Robles made 13 appearances for Wigan in all competitions last season, keeping four clean sheets and conceding 17 goals.
