Coyle confirms imminent exit of Everton target Kone

The new Wigan boss has revealed the ex-Levante striker is poised to leave the DW Stadium, with a reunion with his former manager Roberto Martinez the player's preferred choice
Wigan boss Owen Coyle has revealed Arouna Kone is poised to depart the club in the next few days, with Everton the player's preferred destination.

Premier League clubs Swansea City and Norwich City have both been linked with a move for the ex-Levante man, with Coyle confirming the Latics have received a number of offers for the striker.

However, he looks set to be reunited with his former manager Roberto Martinez at Everton to compete with Nikica Jelavic and Victor Anichebe for a starting berth.

"I'm led to believe through his representative that Everton is the club he wants to join," Coyle told BBC Radio 5 live.

"It's not rocket science to say that Arouna Kone will probably leave at some point this week. There have been a number of offers in for him.

"There is no problem, he goes with our blessing because I need players who need to be at Wigan. If his heart's elsewhere then he's no good to me."

Kone netted an impressive 11 goals in his debut season in English football and previously expressed his desire to return to the top-flight following Wigan’s relegation to the Championship.
