Martinez 'in love with Everton', says Toffees chairman Kenwright

The Goodison Park chief says the club's new Spanish manager has developed an immediate affection for the Merseyside club, and is eager to kick-start pre-season preparations
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright says new Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is “in love” with the club.

Martinez joined the Goodison Park outfit at the start of June, agreeing a four-year deal on Merseyside after leaving Wigan.

And Kenwright believes the club have already made a huge impression on the 39-year-old, who is itching to get started with pre-season preparations.

“Roberto's not patient! He wants to be in there, wants to be with the players, wants to be at it,” Kenwright told the Liverpool Echo.

He's excited about the pre-season tours to Austria and America - I've told him to bring us home a trophy. He's in love. He's in love with Everton.”

Kenwright believes the Everton faithful are already reciprocating Martinez's passion for the club, and have taken to the new manager very quickly.

“I’ve brought [Martinez] in and I want him to work with that audience which is Evertonians.

“And that in itself is a thrill, that in itself is an adventure and that in itself is exciting – and also worrying because it’s not an easy job taking over from David Moyes.

“But it seems to me that there is a real feeling for Roberto already.”
