As revealed by Goal earlier in June, Spurs are on the brink of capturing the 24-year-old attacking midfielder for £17 million, with the deal expected to be finalised once the Confederations Cup has concluded.

And the former Arsenal midfielder has given the north London club a taste of what is to come by praising the outgoing Brazilian international for his peerless work ethic.

"Paulinho is, what I really want to say, a really professional guy. [He is] very focused in training, in the match," he told BBC Sport.

"He doesn't like to lose, he always fights to be [in a] good position in the table.

"[He] scores so many goals, it's quite strange to see his number because he's a midfielder. He scores so many goals - important goals.

"As a player he is box-to-box, easily. It is very difficult to find a player with his characteristics."
