"When you see a player like that, it motivates you even more. It's great to see the passion he has. This season he has been a leader when he was playing as the lone striker. He showed the whole team that we will go for it.

"He drags everyone into the game. His finishing, his runs into the box, his tackling – it's fantastic. Everything about his game really motivates us individually."

Alongisde Michu and Rangel, Chico Flores and Pablo Hernandez comprise a four-strong contingent of Spaniards at the Liberty Stadium and the full-back feels that the national bond has strengthened the club.

"It has been a pleasure to play with them," he enthused of his countrymen. "On the pitch they are top players and off the pitch they are a very good group of lads.

"The Spanish influence at the club has been very important in the club's success, going back to when Roberto [Martinez] was here as a player.

"It's great to see Swansea City having such a strong connection with Spain. I'm really enjoying it here and the other Spanish lads feel very comfortable and settled here. We spend quite a lot of time together."
