The Spaniard has enjoyed a successful debut season in England with 22 goals, but is expecting the club to purchase strikers to ease the pressure on him during the next campaignSwansea City striker Michu is expecting the club to invest in strikers during the forthcoming transfer window.
The Swans had the Spaniard to thank on numerous occasions this season with his goalscoring exploits helping them to a highly respectable ninth position in the Premier League, along with a Capital One Cup win, their first major trophy.
But the 27-year-old is downplaying his efforts and is confident the prospect of playing in Europe will help the club lure top strikers to the Liberty Stadium.
“It’s difficult to score that many goals again,” Michu told Wales Online.
“Although I hope to do so – but I think the club will sign new strikers in the summer.
“My team-mates next year will score, so there won’t be too much pressure.”
The Welsh club have been linked with a number of strikers in Spain since they pinched Michu from Rayo Vallecano for £2 million. Celta Vigo’s Iago Aspas and Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo are among those thought to be potential targets for the Swans, and Michu insists he would relish the competition.
He added: “I prefer to play behind the striker but, if the gaffer asks me to play anywhere, I’ll play there.
“The competition for places will be high, but hopefully I will have done enough this season to play. But I’ll keep my [goal] celebration for next season because it has been great for me this time.”
