The Frenchman says he is delighted he decided to join a challenging league, and is driven by the challenge of improving a Magpies side that finished 16th this seasonMathieu Debuchy insists he has no regrets about the joining Newcastle, despite almost being relegated from the Premier League.
Debuchy moved from Lille in January and immediately earned his place as first choice right-back, but results on the pitch did not go the way as expected.

"I have really enjoyed the first four, five or whatever months I’ve had here," he told reporters.
"It’s gone really well. The Premier League is a very difficult league to play in, but by the same token it’s an interesting one as well.
"Why is the league difficult? Every match is difficult, and I do mean every one.
"You have some of the best players in the world, so the level in all games is of a really high standard.
"But that is a challenge that I wanted when I decided to join Newcastle."
Debuchy insists he is determined to right the wrongs of this season, and has accepted the club should not have been in the position they were in after finishing fifth in the previous campaign.
"We want to do a lot better," he added. "There is a determination within the squad to improve next season.
"It’s not been good enough for a team such as Newcastle United to do what they did in the last campaign, and everyone knows that. We will do better next time."
