Benitez: Chelsea can win the title next season

Ahead of his last game in charge of the Blues, the Spanish interim boss believes they can win the Premier League next season, and hinted that Jose Mourinho could be at the helm
Chelsea interim manager Rafa Benitez believes he is passing on a squad fully capable of achieving Premier League glory next season.

The Spaniard also hinted that the man who could be inheriting his Europa League winners is the coach who won six pieces of silverware in his first stint as Blues boss - Jose Mourinho.

Benitez takes charge of his last Chelsea game on Sunday against sixth-placed Everton, with his side already guaranteed a top-four finish.

"For sure it's a stronger team [now than when I was appointed], the team was in transition with new players who have now improved and have experience of competing for trophies," Benitez told The Guardian.

"Cesar Azpilicueta is an international, David Luiz can play in a different position, Fernando Torres is stronger and more confident, and Oscar, [Eden] Hazard and [Juan] Mata are getting better every day."

Benitez led Chelsea to Europa League glory on Wednesday when they defeated Portuguese side Benfica courtesy of a last-minute Branislav Ivanovic goal.

"With some additions also the team will be better, so the new manager will have an easier task [of winning the title] because he will have more quality.

"Maybe the next manager will have some experience here too, so I do not need to give him any advice.

"We have been working hard so it will be a pity if we cannot guarantee top three," Benitez said. "The players know how important it is [to beat Everton]. I am sure we will be fine."
