The 23-year-old thinks his team-mate is a better stopper than the Pole, and wishes the Belgium international could be in goal when the north London side take on Wigan

Sunderland’s Alfred N’Diaye believes his team-mate Simon Mignolet is a better goalkeeper than Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny, and thinks it is easy to see why top clubs are monitoring his progress.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly one of a number of managers mulling over a potential move for the Belgium international in the summer - as a replacement for Szczesny.

And N’Diaye has praised Mignolet’s consistent displays and wishes he was in goal for the Gunners instead of his Polish counterpart for their crunch clash against Wigan.

He told reporters: “He is a quality keeper. When I came here I had not seen him or heard of him, but every time he plays he is fantastic.

“The quality is there for all to see. I can understand why he has been linked with other teams because this is normal. It is very normal for that to happen when you play as well as he does.

“He is better than the keeper at Arsenal, Szczesny, he is better than him – no doubt about it. He is such a good keeper and that is why he is being linked with other clubs.

“He is very consistent and against Southampton again he was fantastic.”

Mignolet is one of a host of goalkeeping names to be mentioned with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the summer, with Stoke’s Asmir Begovic and Liverpool’s Pepe Reina also linked.
