Michu wants Swansea stay

The 27-year-old striker has dismissed speculation regarding his future and has set his sights on the club's Europa League challenge next season
Swansea City forward Michu insists he is happy at the Premier League club amid rumours surrounding his future at the Liberty Stadium.

The 27-year-old has scored 22 goals in his debut season in English football following a £2 million move from Rayo Vallecano last summer.

That explosive return has triggered speculation that the Spaniard might be set to leave Michael Laudrup's side at the end of the season, but Michu was quick to dismiss the rumours, stating he is eager to play for the club in Europe next term.

“I’ve seen articles on the internet but I’m very happy here,” he told the South Wales Evening Post.

“I only think about playing next Sunday against Fulham. I'm happy on the pitch and in this team.

“Swansea fans do not need to worry. I'm very interested [in having the chance] to play in Europe. We have to play two rounds before the group stage, but we're not worried about that.

“We start on August 1, but it's good for us because we will play a lot of official games before the league season starts. It will be the first time in Europe for me.

“I am very happy at the club and I want to say thank you to everyone at the club because we have all enjoyed this season.”

Michu’s Premier League goal tally of 18 has only been eclipsed by Robin van Persie, Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale this season, and the Spaniard admits he is surprised by how smoothly his first campaign at the Liberty Stadium has gone.

“I’ve scored goals, we won a title and we’ve played well throughout the season," he said.

“I never thought it would go so well.”
