Swansea’s victory over Wigan on Monday means the Magpies stay out of the relegation zone and the Senegalese assures fans the squad is determined to avoid the dropNewcastle striker Papiss Cisse has told the club's fans the players are working hard to ensure Premier League survival.
The Magpies sit just one place and three points above the relegation zone with two games left to play, and face already relegated QPR on Sunday before a final day fixture against Arsenal.
Newcastle's last victory came against Fulham at the beginning of April but Cisse says his team are desperate to stay in the top flight and understand the supporters' current frustrations.
“We’re working hard to make sure we stay in the Premier League,” Cisse told The Chronicle.
“We want to keep this club in the Premier League. We know, for the fans, the best time in their week is when they come and watch their team in the Premier League.”
Cisse also reassured fans that the team would be doing their utmost on the pitch as they battle to beat the drop.
“I often see people when I’m out and about on the street, and they tell me how difficult it is," he added.
“Sometimes, obviously, there might be discontent with the result. But I can accept that. It’s our job.
“As supporters, they’re in their rights to feel like that. But when we go out there we do our best for them and for this club.”
