'It didn't go in, honest' - West Ham defender Reid adamant Cisse's shot did not cross the line

The pivotal moment in Saturday's clash at Upton Park saw the Hammers defender scramble the Newcastle striker's effort away, and he is sure the officials made the right call
West Ham defender Winston Reid has no doubt he prevented Papiss Cisse’s shot from crossing the line during the Hammers’ goalless draw with Newcastle on Saturday.

Reid scrambled the Senegal striker’s effort away with the Magpies players and fans screaming at the officials to give the goal, but nothing was awarded and the teams shared the spoils.

Replays were inconclusive but the New Zealand international has no doubt in his mind that he cleared the ball before all of it had crossed the line.

“No, it wasn’t in, dead honest,” he told London 24. “Actually my foot was on the line and I got the ball away in time and it was good.

“As a defender you are trying to stop goals and fortunately enough I managed to get it right at the end.”

The 24-year-old recently penned a new deal which will keep him at Upton Park until 2015, and he revealed the players are determined to enjoy their remaining two fixtures with their Premier League status confirmed for another year.

“I think these games are about enjoying it really,” he added. “We can go out and play with no pressure and try and finish as high as possible. That is why we work so hard each year, to try and stay away from the relegation battle and get up the table.

“We have managed to do that this year, so now it is about enjoying it and trying to develop.”
