The 24-year-old was highly regarded as a player for Werder Bremen but his career hasn't taken off as expected since signing for the Blues.

"One can still not judge [my career at Chelsea] after such a short time," he told Eurosport. "The injury has been a spanner in the works, but in the last games as a substitute I've shown that I can keep up.
"Now I need more play rhythm and consistency, so that I can reach my full potential. Definitely, [I will reach my potential]. I do not regret the change in the least, my time will come.
"There were some questions from the Bundesliga, from Spain, Italy and Russia. But [Rafa] Benitez has told me personally that I get my games, and that the club and he trusted in me and my qualities.
"My injury put me out of action for three months, the first team was initially successful and it made it more difficult for me to get back into the team.
"Secondly the change in manager and thirdly the usual acclimatisation period – everyone needs time to take in a new country or change club.
"London as a city is fantastic. I've settled in well and feel comfortable here. From a sporting point I had some initial problems due to my injury, but it is getting better slowly."
