thumbnail Hello,

The Ireland international is putting yet more speculation about his future to the back of his mind as he concentrates on helping the Latics stay in the Premier League

Wigan midfielder James McCarthy insists he is focusing on the club's bid for Premier League survival rather than the ever-growing speculation around his own future.

The Republic of Ireland international has been linked with a succession of clubs, including Manchester United, as revealed by Goal.com earlier this month.

McCarthy has become a key player in Roberto Martinez's side, and is adamant that keeping the Latics in the top flight is his focus.

"I don't want to talk about speculation," he told reporters.

"The most important thing is to keep Wigan in the Premier League and that is all I am concentrating on.

"I am happy at Wigan, it is a great club to be at."

Roberto Martinez's men currently sit 18th in the League with five games remaining, three points behind Aston Villa, who have played one more game.

And McCarthy believes the relegation battle will be so tight that it could go down to the last game of the season, at home to Villa.

He continued: "It is in our own hands and if we go about our business the right way then we'll be fine.

"We have the experience of being in this position before and we have a good squad who will be giving it our all.

"Hopefully we get enough points not to go into the last game against Aston Villa needing a result but if we do then so be it."
