Norwich defender Bennett charged by FA over Twitter post

Norwich defender Ryan Bennett has been charged by the FA with misconduct following comments made on social-networking site Twitter.

The England Under-21 international has been accused of using "abusive and/or insulting and/or threatening words" on the site, and closed his account on Tuesday night after being disciplined by Norwich and reported to the FA.

Bennett is understood to have been involved in some heated exchanges with fans following the Canaries' 3-1 defeat to Arsenal. He responded to one Arsenal supporter's taunts with "if ya got a prob I'll finish you in a couple of seconds."

Moments prior to closing his Twitter account on Tuesday evening, Bennett posted "Officially going to delete twitter! Seems you can't say what you want on here, public can say why they want bit [sic] seems I can't reply!

"Being charged by FA, for replying to someone coming for me, that's the reason so bye bye all."

The FA confirmed that he has been given until 4pm on Friday April 26th to respond to the charge.

Bennett has made 24 appearances for the Canaries since signing from Peterborough United in January 2012. He scored his first Premier League goal in the 2-1 home in win over Reading on Saturday.
