Guzan prepared to make '200 more saves' to keep Aston Villa up

The 28-year-old has been one of the Premier League's most successful goalkeepers this season and aims to maintain his form if it is enough to prevent relegation
Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan says that he is prepared to make "another 200 saves" if it keeps his side in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has reached a double-century of stops this season - the first in the division to do so - since displacing Shay Given in the Villans' goal and he hopes to keep up his key role in keeping Paul Lambert's side above the drop-zone.

"For me it is about just contributing to the cause," Guzan told the club's official website. "If I have to make 200 more in the next five games then so be it.

"As long as we stay in the Premier League that is the most important thing. Once we can do that it will be a massive boost and we will be able to build and look forward to next year but right now the only thing on our minds is picking up results and that starts with Monday [against Manchester United]."

Villa are only three points ahead of 18th-placed Wigan but the American feels that they can still be proud of their campaign if they stay up.

"For me it has been a good season," he argued. "Do I still think there is room for improvement and areas to get better? For me, 100 per cent.

"The next thing on the list is to make sure we pick up enough point in the next five games. That's the main priority. It is not about the fact that I've played first-team football, it is not about Christian [Benteke] scoring 20 goals, it is not about whatever you want to say.

"The main thing for us is to make sure we pick up enough points in these last remaining games and that we stay in the Premier League because that is the most important thing."
