Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero could miss the club's Premier League clash with Tottenham after picking up an injury against Wigan.

The Argentine was replaced at half-time after suffering from a tight hamstring during the clash at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, and faces a battle to be fit in time for Sunday's trip to White Hart Lane.

First-team coach David Platt indicated the 24-year-old was only withdrawn as a safety measure and did not sustain serious damage, however he admitted the player remains a doubt to face Champions League-chasing Spurs.

"He has got a problem, but it was a slight problem," he told reporters. "It was more of a precaution than anything else. He felt his hamstring tighten up.

"Just the sheer proximity of the game on Sunday would say he is a doubt."

City will monitor Aguero and assess the extent of the damage over the next couple of days, before making a decision as to whether he will join the squad at the weekend - but the club feel the problem is unrelated to the hamstring tear the Argentine suffered in January.

The Premier League champions are also likely to be relieved the forward has not suffering a recurrence of the knee problem that kept him sidelined at the start of the season and for much of March.

Should Aguero miss the fixture against Andre Villas-Boas' side, City can rely on the good form of fellow Argentine Tevez - the forward netting the winner against Wigan.
