The Capital One Cup winners announced on their official website that the proposed expansion would involve three phases of development to the North, East and South Stands.
The phased approach is designed to ensure that closed areas are kept to a minimum while work is ongoing, with the East Stand set to receive a 3,844 capacity increase in phase one.
"The proposals seek to capitalise on the success of the football club during their first two seasons in the Premier League, help consolidate this status and remain part of the top flight for many years to come," the club statement read.
The application documents have been submitted to the City and County of Swansea.
