Hangeland: Fulham aiming for top-half finish after QPR victory

The 31-year-old believes the Cottagers can now put to bed any fears they may have harboured about relegation this term and focus instead on securing a strong finish to the campaign
Fulham defender Brede Hangeland believes that with the club's Premier League status is all but assured for another season now, the side can set about targeting a top-half finish.

The 31-year-old centre-back recently ended speculation regarding his future by committing to a new two-year deal with the Cottagers, with the option for a further year's extension.

Having overcome a second half fightback during their 3-2 win against QPR at home on Monday night, Hangeland believes the team can now focus on the clubs ahead of them in the table rather than worrying about the relegation dogfight below them.

"I was almost disappointed after the game because we controlled it so well in the first half and controlled it really well," Hangeland told The Independent.

"The second half was the complete opposite so it was a bit strange but obviously we're delighted to get the three points.

"It is so tight and if it hadn't been for this really good run recently we could have been in trouble, but luckily we seemed to turn the corner after the new year.

"Hopefully now we can sleep well at night, knowing we will be in the league next year and look up a little bit."

Fulham now sit comfortably in 10th place in the league table, nine points away from the relegation zone with just eight games of the campaign left to play.
