The Potters defender believes the home crowd can make a telling contribution in their crunch relegation clash with their fellow Premier League strugglers at the weekendRyan Shawcross has urged the Stoke fans to inspire them to victory in their upcoming Premier League relegation crunch clash with Aston Villa.
The Potters sit just four points above the drop zone following their defeat to Everton last weekend, and Shawcross believes the home support will need to be in strong voice when they welcome Paul Lambert's side - who occupy the final relegation place - to the Britannia Stadium.
He told the Staffordshire Sentinel: "It's pretty well known how good the Stoke fans are when they are roaring and behind us. It's massive and hopefully we can push on after that.
"I think it would probably take 37 points (to stay up), so we need to get to that then hopefully push on."
The 25-year-old was quick to acknowledge his side's disappointing away form so far this season, but despite this he believes there is enough spirit in the team to avoid the drop.
He added: "We need to be calm, collected and make sure we do our job. Our home record is fantastic. In recent times we have had a few losses, but throughout the seasons it had been very good.
"We have some tough away games but also some good home games from which we can pick up points. It's going to be difficult but we can do it."
