"I've always been positive in my football and the way we've been playing lately I don't see why we should be unduly worried.
"I don't talk about it [relegation], I just focus on the game ahead of us.
"We're in the mix with a lot of other teams but I've got beliefe we're going to be fine.
"You can't influence what has happened in the past. You can only influence what happens now."
Villa face relegation rivals QPR on Saturday having defeated fellow strugglers Reading 2-1 in the previous game.
Harry Redknapp's side are in a good run of form having beaten Southampton and Sunderland, but Lambert insists the race is not finished, whatever the result.
"There's still a long time to go after this game," Lambert added. "Saturday's result will not define anything."
