Swansea defender Williams hails Laudrup impact

The Swans captain revealed his delight at the news that the Danish manager has signed a new two-year-deal with the League Cup winners, despite interest from Real Madrid
Ashley Williams has lauded manager Michael Laudrup after the Dane agreed to sign a new two-year contract with Swansea City.

Laudrup has been the subject of speculation regarding his future after guiding the Swans to their first major honour with a Capital One Cup final win over Bradford two weeks ago.

However, the former Barcelona and Real Madrid player has committed his future to south Wales and club captain Williams was quick to praise the influence the 48-year-old has had at the Liberty Stadium.

He told reporters: "We've enjoyed the season working with him and the fact that he has been linked to other teams shows that he has been doing his job properly. He's very laid back and I that shows in how relaxed the atmosphere is, it's a little bit different to what we're used to.

"He's signed a new contract and we're pleased, I don't think any of us knew that he was signing it until we heard the news, it was a nice surprise."

Swansea have earned praise for the brand of football they have played under Laudrup's stewardship, and Williams feels they now have the ability to push on and cement their status as one of the better sides in the Premier League.

He added: "I think when we first got promoted we just wanted to survive, now we want to try and establish ourselves as a Premier League club, and I think we're going the right way about it.

"We've got a good manager, a good squad and a good infrastructure at the club.

"We've got a good squad now, we get along really well, you never know what's going to happen in football but I think it's important that we all try and stick together."
