Lowton: Reading and QPR matches vital for Aston Villa

The Villans' 23-year-old defender urges his side to win their next two games, against two teams also struggling for Premier League survival, to turn around their season
Aston Villa defender Matthew Lowton says that his side are ready for their "vital" upcoming games against fellow strugglers Reading and QPR.

With the Villans going into their clash with the Royals in 18th place in the Premier League, the 23-year-old is well aware of how crucial their bouts with other relegation candidates will be.

"The next two Saturdays are massive games for us. We have to show the fight that we have done and the quality will come through to get the points we need," Lowton told the club's official website.

"We said before the Man City game that we had to compete. It's encouraging that we did that."

Villa lost narrowly 1-0 at home to Manchester City on Monday and the right-back feels that their performance should give the team a boost going into their next games despite the result.

"We didn't create enough chances to maybe earn a point but the effort and endeavour was definitely there," he added.

"We have to take the confidence from the performance and the endeavour into Saturday.

"Overall it gives us confidence knowing that, if we can keep Man City to a few chances, hopefully we can do the same against Reading and QPR."
