Clarke: Odemwingie has a future at West Brom

The Baggies manager suggests that the unsettled Nigerian striker may yet remain at the Hawthorns, despite his attempt to force a move to QPR on transfer deadline day

West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke has suggested that Nigerian striker Peter Odemwingie may yet see out the remainder of his contract.

The 31-year-old looked set to leave the Hawthorns following a frantic conclusion to the January transfer window but the Baggies boss now believes that his departure may not be inevitable.

"Things happen and life moves on – that’s the world. It happens in life and in sport," Clarke told the Birmingham Mail. "There is a possibility [of Odemwingie staying] but I haven't spoken to him. He's still trying to get back into the team."

Following the January transfer saga involving QPR, the Scot initially announced that the striker would be leaving the club in the summer but now observes: "That is a question for Peter, not for me – if you drop him a tweet maybe he'll answer. I haven't had that conversation with Peter.

“He is under contract to the club for another year. I've been asked whether there is a chance he could stay beyond the summer and obviously I say yes because he has a year left on his contract."
