thumbnail Hello,

The Netherlands international has struggled with fitness problems for much of the season, but is desperate to return to action and help the Villans beat the drop

Ron Vlaar insists confidence is flowing through the Aston Villa squad, as they look to beat the drop this season.

The Villans have lost their last two games to Manchester City and Arsenal, but face the only two sides below them in the Premier League, Reading and QPR, in their next two fixtures.

Vlaar could return to Paul Lambert's line up for the trip to the Madejski Stadium this weekend, and insists that the young squad are not daunted by their current plight.

He told The Express & Star: "We have had some encouraging performances, which should help everyone's confidence over the remaining weeks of the season."

The Netherlands international, who was made club captain by Lambert this term, has only managed 17 appearances for Villa due to calf injuries and admits he is uncertain over his condition at the moment.

"It happened out of nothing at training," he explained. "Right now, I'm going from day to day in the hope that it will clear up quickly."
