Reading still believe in survival dream, insists Stephen Kelly

The Royals defender believes his side's Premier League fate remains in their own hands and is adamant no one in the squad has given up hope of beating the drop
Reading defender Stephen Kelly insists his side's chances of Premier League survival remain in their own hands as they gear up for a vitally important last 10 games of the season.

The Royals have lost their last three league games despite putting in spirited performances against Everton and Stoke City, having previously gone four matches unbeaten.

But despite this run Brian McDermott's men remain only one point from safety, and Kelly is adamant the squad are still confident in their chances of beating the drop.

19/2 Reading are 19/2 with BetVictor to beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Saturday
"With what's left of the season and what's at stake, you understand why there is such emphasis placed on these games," he told the club's official website.

"It's all to play for - there's ten games left and it's up for grabs to stay in this league.

"All we can do is concentrate on ourselves - you can't be hoping on results elsewhere, we just need to do the best we can, perform to the highest level, pick up as many points between now and the end of the season and hopefully that will be enough to stay up."

The Republic of Ireland international also believes preserving the spirit and harmony in the Reading dressing room will be crucial to the club's hopes of survival.

"The togetherness we have here is going to be vital between now and the end of the season," he continued. "When I signed, we were six or seven points off safety and now there's only one point.

"It means just as much to us as it does to the fans - we want to give something back to them. We're passionate about this club - everyone is and everyone wants to do well.

"Everyone wants to play in the Premier League; it's the pinnacle of football. It's still in our own hands to a certain degree and we need to make sure it stays like that.

"We still have a lot of belief."
