Hughton underlines importance of 'big month' ahead for Norwich

The Canaries boss has admitted that the next few weeks are critical if his team are to avoid slipping into a relegation dogfight as the season draws to a close

Norwich manager Chris Hughton has underlined the importance of gaining positive results during March as they fight to avoid relegation.

Hughton’s men are currently eight points clear of the drop, but face the likes of Southampton and Wigan before the end of the month - sides who will be looking to drag the Canaries into the battle at the bottom of the table.

"It’s a big month for us, as it is for a load of teams," Hughton told reporters. "All the games for us are big games and they’re tough games."

Despite the 4-0 loss to Manchester United on Saturday Hughton is convinced the result won’t negatively affect his players, admitting they didn’t expect to come to Old Trafford and pick up a result.

"Our season certainly won’t depend on the result here, as we never thought it would," he continued. "The game here at Old Trafford was never going to define our season. Anything we got from here was going to be a bonus.

"There’s only one team that’s come here and won this season and that’s Spurs, so we knew it would be tough. But certainly the positive for us here was our first-half performance."
