The out-of-favour striker was pleased to find the net on only his second league appearance of the season for the Rs but insists the team's win over Southampton was all-important

Jay Bothroyd has hailed the performance of his team-mates after hitting the late winner to give bottom club QPR only their third Premier League victory of the season.

REDKNAPP SLAMS REPORTS
12/5 QPR are 12/5 with Bet365 to save their Premier League status this season
The 30-year-old has only made two appearances for the club this season, and found himself farmed out on loan at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday earlier this campaign.

"It’s great to score goals and it was always about getting the win," Bothroyd told reporters.

"The gaffer has done a lot with us this week on tactical things and we played a counterattacking game and played well.

"We had the better chances I thought and we’re happy and delighted.

"It worked well for both goals and it was a terrific team performance. Everybody worked really hard."

The former Cardiff frontman, who has been at QPR since the summer of 2011, saved particular praise for his side's defensive display as the Rs closed the gap on safety to four points.

He added: "The back line was really tight and obviously we took it to them and we have a smile on our face, which hasn’t happened too much this year."
