'This is the greatest season in Swansea's history', says Monk

Following their Capital One Cup success the Swans' captain believes the Welsh side's current campaign represents the finest achievement since their formation 100 years ago
Swansea defender and club captain Garry Monk believes the current campaign represents the greatest season in the Swans' history.

The Liberty Stadium outfit, who are celebrating their centenary year, secured their first ever major trophy when they beat Bradford 5-0 in the final of the Capital One Cup at Wembley on Sunday.

Michael Laudrup’s side are also performing well in the Premier league, and currently sit in ninth place in the league table - just two points behind ex-boss Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool.

Almost eleven years on from narrowly escaping relegation out of the Football League, Monk believes the club’s Capital One Cup success is their finest achievement and has backed the Swans to succeed in the Europa League next year.

"It is the greatest season in the club’s history, to bring major silverware to the club," Monk told talkSPORT.

"Playing in Europe will be another experience for all of us and our fans. It’s going to be pretty amazing.

"I think our style will suit the Europa League. We’ll be novices, but we’ve been novices in the Premier League for the last two years and look how well we’ve done."
