The Republic of Ireland winger suffered an ankle injury whilst on international duty in midweek, and the Black Cats manager is unsure of his participation on Saturday
Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has revealed James McClean is an injury doubt for their Premier League game against Arsenal on the weekend.
The 23-year-old winger played 83 minutes for the Republic of Ireland in their 2-0 friendly win over Poland in Dublin on Wednesday, as Ciaran Clark and Wes Hoolahan both netted their first-ever international goals to secure the victory.
Yet the former Derry City man sustained an ankle injury during which looks to have ruled him out of Sunderland's league fixture at home to the Gunners.
“James has a problem. He played about 80 minutes for the Republic of Ireland and got a knock on his ankle in the first half, but played on," O'Neill told reporters.
“It’s blown up somewhat, so at the moment the physios are dealing with him. We’ll see how he is, but it might be a problem.”
