The Netherlands international was given a torrid time in the 3-3 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday and, after being booed by his own support, took to Twitter to repent

Everton centre-back John Heitinga has vowed to come back stronger after admitting his performance in the 3-3 draw with Aston Villa was his "worst game ever" for the club.

The Dutch international was given a torrid time by Villans striker Christian Benteke - who scored two goals at Goodison Park - and was substituted with his side 3-1 down in the 65th minute.

And, despite a Marouane Fellaini-led comeback stealing a point for the Toffees, Heitinga remained disappointed with his own efforts.

"Played worst game ever in the shirt of Everton. Let teammates and fans down but they never let me down. Will work hard to come back strong," he wrote on Twitter.

Heitinga has made 16 Premier League appearances for the Toffees this term, but has largely found himself behind Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin in the pecking order.
