The 65-year-old former Liverpool coach has expressed his belief that the Magpies' mooted January signings could in fact have a negative impact on squad moraleLiverpool boss Gerard Houllier has warned Newcastle manager Alan Pardew against signing too many French players.
The Magpies having already tied up deals for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Yoan Gouffran and Massadio Haidara this month, taking the number of French-speaking players in the squad up to 13.
And, with Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko also linked with an arrival, Houllier, now a global advisor with New York Red Bulls, has claimed the recruits could have a negative impact.
"You can’t stop the French speaking French," Houllier told reporters.
"The dressing room will be unbalanced. There will be problems."
