Tottenham star Bale will test Manchester United - Phil Jones

The Wales international was on target in the 3-2 victory for Spurs at Old Trafford, and the defender has acknowledged it will take a team effort to stop the winger
Phil Jones is expecting Gareth Bale to cause Manchester United plenty of problems when the Premier League leaders face Tottenham on Sunday.

Bale was on target when Spurs beat Sir Alex Ferguson's side 3-2 at Old Trafford earlier in the season.

Jones did not play in the defeat, but has acknowledged whoever features at White Hart Lane will have to be at their best to stop the Welsh attacker.

“Spurs have done well this season," Jones told the club's official website. "They’ve got some brilliant individual players and we’ll have to be wary of them all.

"It’ll be a test for whoever comes up against Gareth Bale – he’s a great player. They have a lot of good individual players, but if we work collectively as a team hopefully we can stop him.

"The most important thing for us is to concentrate on what we’re about and how we’ll approach the game."

The defender has only recently returned to the United side after missing several months through injury but is looking forward to featuring in big upcoming games for the Red Devils.

“The reason you come to Manchester United is to play in big games every week in different competitions,” Jones added.

“As well as league games and FA Cup matches we’ve got two massive games coming up against Real Madrid and they’re all matches that, if I’m involved, I’ll relish.

“Personally, it was good to get another full game in [against West Ham] and good to be playing at centre-back which is a position I always enjoy playing.”
