Stoke forward Walters thanks fans for support after double own goal

The 29-year-old, who notced twice against Crystal Palace, has revealed his desire to repay the Potters faithful after his nightmare performance against Chelsea last weekend

Stoke City forward Jon Walters has thanked the club's fans for their support following his two own goals in the 4-0 loss to Chelsea in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old looked to make amends with two goals at the right end in the Potters’ 4-1 win over Championship club Crystal Palace in Tuesday’s FA Cup third-round replay.

And Walters has thanked the club’s fans for their support in light of the embarrassing outing.

“The Stoke fans have been brilliant with me," he is quoted as saying by The Sun.

"That was special on Saturday, when I was getting stick from Chelsea supporters, but they stick up for their own here.

“It is a measure of the people and the area that they don’t just get behind you when things go well.”

With the win over Crystal Palace, Stoke has set up a date with their 2011 League Cup final victors Manchester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

And Walters hoping that another extended cup run can boost the squad during the second half of the season.

"It’s going to be a good game against Manchester City," he added.

“We had a good run a couple of years ago in the FA Cup and once you’ve had a taste of it you want it again.”
