West Brom manager Steve Clarke has praised striker Romelu Lukaku after his late header ended Norwich City’s 10-game unbeaten streak and claim a 2-1 win.

The 19-year-old, on loan from Chelsea, grabbed rise highest to meet Goran Popov’s cross eight minutes from time to seal the victory for the Baggies with his sixth goal of the season.

West Brom were previously winless in their last four Premier League games - including three defeats - and Clarke has hailed his young forward as his side reignited their hopes of Champions League qualification come the end of the season.

"Romelu has done well,” Clarke told Sky Sports. "He is a big talent, he has got a big future ahead of him in the game.

"The fact he couldn't get in the team for most of the season is down to the form of Shane Long who shouldn't be forgotten today."

Clarke revealed that parent club Chelsea have the option of recalling Lukaku in January, with the initial agreement a season-long loan.

He added: "He is on a season-long loan but there is an opportunity for the parent club to take him back in January. I can't affect it so I don't like to talk about it."

Despite overturning a tough Norwich display to secure the win, Clarke has admitted his squad are still not performing as well as they could after recent disappointing performances.

"It was another performance where we were a bit scratchy," he continued. “We are not quite flowing as we were early in the season.

"When you are coming in after four games without a win, there comes a bit more pressure on it.

"It was a big game for us today and it was important we got the three points."
