With Antonio Valencia and Nani both injured, the 70-year-old boss has started experimenting with three central midfielders - but found space for Young on the left as United beat Reading 4-3 on Saturday evening.
However, the 27-year-old attacker has said he is not worried by his manager's recent preferences - especially as he is relieved simply to be playing again after a spell out through injury.
"I wasn't worried when the diamond formation emerged. It was fine," he told reporters.
"I'm a versatile player who can operate in a number of different positions so I'm comfortable with whatever formation the manager picks."
The winger missed six Premier League games this season with a knee injury, but was on hand to set up a goal against Reading as United went three points clear of champions Manchester City.

He continued: "As a footballer you always want to be playing. It is never nice when you are on the sidelines.
"I never realised how hard it was to keep yourself motivated when everybody else is out training and you are stuck inside doing rehab."
