thumbnail Hello,

The former Liverpool boss knows his stay at Stamford Bridge may be short-lived if Roman Abramovich decides to employ the ex-Barcelona manager next season, but is not worried

Rafael Benitez says he is aware of talk linking Pep Guardiola with the Chelsea hotseat next summer, but is confident he will be the first to know if his compatriot does decide to take over the helm at Stamford Bridge.

Having seen Roberto Di Matteo sacked despite winning the much-coveted Champions' League crown in May, Benitez knows there is a lot expected of him, but believes Guardiola would tell him if he plans to take his job.

"I have good relations with Pep so any time I call him, I say, 'How are you doing? I know he is enjoying life in New York, now, with his family," he told Sky Sports.

However, the former Valencia chief does not expect such an open gesture from his current employers, but is concentrating fully on bringing silverware to Stamford Bridge in any case.

"I don't think that they will let me know. But I don't have any problem. I know the situation. I have come to create a competitive team and to win trophies," he said.

"It might be that you can win three trophies, which would be difficult for anyone. The worst case scenario, if you win three trophies and then they would say, 'No, we give the job to another one', I will be so pleased with three trophies."

Benitez's first game in charge is on Sunday afternoon when Premier League champions Manchester City visit Stamford Bridge.
