Figueroa: Wigan cannot afford to underestimate resurgent Reading

The Honduran defender believes that the Lancashire club have what it takes to beat the Royals at the weekend, but they cannot take the newly-promoted side lightly
Maynor Figueroa is confident that Wigan can beat Reading at the DW Stadium on Saturday, but cannot take the promoted side for granted.

The Latics sit two points above the Royals in the table and have played a game more than their relegation rivals.

Although Wigan’s last Premier League outing was a 3-0 defeat at Liverpool, the Honduran defender believes that his side have enough on their day to beat any team in the Premier League.

“We know that Reading will come really motivated because of their win against Everton,” he told the club's official website.
“With them being new to the league we haven’t seen much about them but both teams are in the same situation; we've not played against them and they haven’t played against us either.

“Despite our defeat against Liverpool, we know we have a great squad and we are capable of beat any Premier League team."

Wigan currently have five players on the sidelines for Saturday’s game, with Franco Di Santo and Ryo Miyaichi facing a late fitness test ahead of the game.

Figueroa believes that this provides a great chance for the fringe players in the squad and that, despite the mini injury crisis, the good performances can continue.

Figueroa added: “We have a lot of players injured, but I also think that there are other players who have been waiting for their opportunity and we hope they help to maintain the level the team has been showing in the last few games.

“We've always had good players in our squad, and now more than ever.

“I think that the philosophy is what is making us play such an attractive style of football and players like Arouna Kone and Ivan Ramis have strengthened the squad.

“Their performances have been remarkable and they increase the whole team’s confidence.”
