The Royals forward grabbed a late double to see of high-flying Everton at the Madejski Stadium and admitted that there is now a great sense of relief around the club

Reading striker Adam Le Fondre says everyone at the club is breathing a little easier after the Royals secured their first Premier League win of the season against Everton on Saturday.

The newly promoted side had drawn six and lost four of their opening ten games back in the top flight before securing the 2-1 win over the in-form Toffees.

And two-time goalscorer Le Fondre believes the three points were a huge boost for whole squad.

"It's a massive relief for all of us," he told reporters after the game. "We've got the three points and it's a monkey off our backs as they say.

"It's a magnificent result for us. We've been working hard all season to get that win and we've been in some great positions so far this season and not finished teams off."

"I didn't think there was much in it in the first half, but they were playing some good football and creating chances, which was a problem for us. I had a good chance just after they scored which I should have done better with actually."

Le Fondre reserved special praise for manager Brian McDermott and his ability to turn the first-half deficit into a victory.

"The gaffer was brilliant. He just tells you what you need to do,” the 25-year-old continued.

“We just wanted to get a bit higher up the pitch, press a little higher from midfield and defence and shut down better and be more compact in the spaces in between.

"Coming out for that second half, I'm sure everyone could see a massive difference. We absolutely battered Everton for a time and we fully deserved our win."
