David Moyes' side currently occupy fourth place in the Premier League after picking up 17 points from their first 10 games.
Howard says the Toffees can finish in the top four for the first time since the 2004-05 season if they maintain the consistency they have shown so far this campaign.

"But the reality of our situation is that if we play really well over the course of 38 games, we have the talent to finish fourth.
"There is not a lack of quality - it is just about making sure we stay consistent over the long haul. And can we do it? Yes, we can do it."
Despite the club's impressive start, the American admits Everton have dropped too many points in the opening months of the campaign.
The Toffees have let leads slip to concede last-minute equalisers against Newcastle United at Goodison Park in September and away to Fulham in their last fixture.
Howard added: "There have been a few too many draws recently, but we are not discouraged by that.
"I think you can see that our performances have been good, and what I've come to realise in the last 10 years is that if you keep your performance level high, more often than not you get results."
Everton will move two points behind third-placed Manchester City, who host Tottenham on Sunday, with a victory at home to Sunderland on Saturday.
