The Spanish boss has been linked with a return to management at Chelsea, but the current Blues coach has insisted he does not fear for his future at the club

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has insisted he is in control of his own destiny, despite speculation linking former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola with the Stamford Bridge hot seat.

The 41-year-old is currently unemployed after resigning from his position at Camp Nou over the summer in order to take a break from top-level management.

And, despite recent suggestions that the Spaniard is now ready to return to football amid interest from Blues owner Roman Abramovich, Di Matteo remains unconcerned.

"I have my own destiny in my hands and the club and the owner is behind it," he told reporters.

"From day one, the speculation has always been in the papers, so it doesn't affect me too much."

The former Italy international went on to claim that the club's future is of the utmost importance, even hinting that a move for Guardiola would be a logical step for Chelsea.

He added: "I work here for the club and the players. It's not about me. I think it's important for the club to have a successful campaign. That means we need to win tomorrow.

"I really believe this club deserves whatever it can achieve. That's my position."
