Aston Villa facing anxious wait on Bent injury

Villans boss Paul Lambert reveals that the ankle knock is similar to the one sustained by the striker last season, that saw his ruled out of contention for a place at Euro 2012
Aston Villa are to assess an ankle injury sustained by Darren Bent during training on Friday, prior to their Premier League win at Sunderland.

The Villans attacker was previously out of action for around five months with an injury to the same ankle after catching his studs in the DW Stadium pitch in a Premier League game against Wigan in February.

That injury also caused him to miss Euro 2012 and although he has since returned to action this season, Christan Benteke has often been the preferred partner to Gabriel Agbonlahor in the Villa attack.

"It is the same ankle he hurt against Wigan. I know it was serious then," Villa boss Paul Lambert told reporters.

"Is it serious? I don't know yet. He will get treatment on it during the week and we will see.

"He was really hobbling on Friday and we couldn't take a chance on him with Sunderland."

Villa's next three games see them host Manchester United and Arsenal either side of a trip to the Etihad to face Premier League champions Manchester City.
