Agbonlahor urges Aston Villa to take cup form into Premier League

The 26-year-old scored as the Villans secured a place in the last eight of the Capital One Cup, but now wants to see improvements in his side's league standing

Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged his side to use their Capital One Cup win over Swindon as a springboard to climbing the Premier League table.

The Villans posted a 3-2 victory against the Robins on Tuesday night, to reach the quarter-final stage of the competition.

However, with Paul Lambert’s side just two points clear of the relegation zone, the 26-year-old has underlined the importance of improving in the league.

“Hopefully this win will give us some confidence but we’re not thinking of Wembley right now,” Agbonlahor told reporters.

“We’ve got a lot of young players. Everyone is gelling together, and a cup run can lift spirits.

“We hadn’t won for a few games and that Swindon win will give us a boost. Hopefully we can take that into the Sunderland game.”
