With the veteran right-back nearing full fitness, the Irishman has underlined his desire to continue impressing Toffees boss David Moyes in order to retain his first-team spotEverton defender Seamus Coleman has revealed he is determined to hold onto his place at right-back as Tony Hibbert nears a return from injury.
Coleman has started the last three games for the Toffees in Hibbert’s absence, and the 23-year-old says the imminent return of his more experienced team-mate provides an incentive to work harder.
“I am really enjoying getting a few games – all footballers want to play every week,” Coleman told the Liverpool Daily Post.
“Sometimes you have to be patient and bide your time.

“But you know there will be injuries or lack of form and when you get in you have to do well and that is what I am trying to do.
“Nobody is happy not to be playing. I had a good summer and got back for pre-season ready to go so hopefully I can have a good season.
“I know Tony will be back from injury soon and will be itching to get back in but I can only do well, hopefully get another chance to play well again at Wigan on Saturday and give the manager a bit of a headache.”
Coleman has formed an impressive partnership with Kevin Mirallas down the right-hand side for Everton, and he praised the impact of his Belgian team-mate.
He added: “Kevin is a great player, he is a tricky winger and I can get the ball out of my feet and pass the ball to him.
“He can go on the inside or the outside and I can get up and give him an option and he can use me if he wants or go by himself.
“The two boys on the left are fantastic with the relationship they have. They have been playing together for a number of years.
“It would be nice if myself and Kevin could – and there is also Tony Hibbert and Steven Naismith to come in – could strike up a relationship and do something similar to the boys on the left, although it will be hard to match what they are doing.”
