The duo are yet to spend too much time playing together since the Dutchman joined from Arsenal in the summer, but with the England striker back from injury that is likely to change
With Wayne Rooney having returned from injury, Sir Alex Ferguson has the dilemma of whether the start the England international alongside his £24 million summer signing Robin van Persie.
Manchester United have coped relatively well with their talismanic forward sidelined with a thigh injury since late August, but his effect when brought on for the Red Devils at the weekend was huge.
Although beaten 3-2 by Tottenham, Rooney kick-started a second-half revival that almost saw them sneak a point at the very least.
Van Persie, on the other hand, was guilty of missing a sitter and could start on the bench in United's Champions League trip to CFR Cluj on Tuesday night.
However, the former Arsenal star scored a hat-trick at Southampton to save the day and has been in relatively sound goalscoring form elsewhere for last season's runners-up in the Premier League.
Javier 'Chicarito' Hernandez and Danny Welbeck are other striking options for Fergie but - unless one of the pair set off on a stunning bit of form - the duo are likely to be behind Rooney and Van Persie in the pecking order.
Will Rooney rediscover his striking form that saw him shoot up the top goalscorer table in the Premier League towards the tail end of last season? Or will Van Persie continue where he left off for the Gunners last season and be the goalscoring king at Old Trafford too?
