thumbnail Hello,

The Poland international made his first appearance since joining as a free agent after leaving Fiorentina but could not prevent his new team from losing against Stoke

Artur Boruc made his debut in goal for Southampton's Under-21 side but ended up on the losing side as they went down 1-0 to Stoke.

The former Fiorentina keeper was handed his first start since moving to St Mary's Stadium after regular starter Cody Cropper was ruled out through injury.

The 32-year-old looked assured and composed in goal for the Saints, making a string of fine saves throughout the game, although he was beaten by a 25th-minute strike by Potters striker Jordan Richardson.

Under-21 coach Martin Hunter was frustrated that his side were unable to get anything from the game having dominated for long spells, but was satisfied with his team's performance.

He told the club's official website: "If you look at the statistics of the game, we definitely out-passed them and got into their final third lots of times but we need to be more ruthless and play with more guile,

"From Artur right the way up to their last third, we were composed and did OK but to lose one-nil and miss a penalty is something we all need to learn from.

"The players are very disappointed, and we'll get back on the training pitch and work as hard as we normally do.

"There were some positives – I thought both the young centre-backs [Jordan Turnbull and Bevis Mugabi] were very composed, so that's a plus – but there's lots of things we need to work on."
