Sunderland loanee Rose wary of inconsistent Wigan

The left-back is unsure what to make of the Latics but wants another raucous atmosphere at the Stadium of Light after a draw with Liverpool in the Black Cats' last home encounter

Danny Rose has warned Sunderland not to underestimate Wigan Athletic on Saturday, despite the Latics' inconsistent form so far this season.

The Latics bounced back from defeats against Manchester United and Fulham to smash West Ham 4-1 in the League Cup on Tuesday.

“We need three points and I’m looking forward to getting back in front of the home fans,” Rose told the Black Cats' official website.

“Last season Wigan had a bad run of defeats and then picked up towards the latter stages of the season and went on a great run.

“You can’t take much from them from one week to the next – they will lose a game but then go on a good run.

11/2 Sunderland are 11/2 with Bet365 to record their fifth 1-1 in five league games this season against Wigan

“We will be wary but we have to concentrate on ourselves. There’s no easy games in this league.

“For example, we played West Ham last week and they went to Swansea a couple of weeks previous and were beaten 3-0. Then West Ham won at home to Fulham, who themselves went on to beat West Brom.”

The Black Cats have drawn all four of their league games so far this season, and are without a win in their last 12 games under Martin O'Neill but Rose believes that they can grab a win, with the backing of their supporters at the Stadium of Light.

He added: “The atmosphere against Liverpool in the last home game was brilliant.

“We have to concentrate on doing the things we’re good at, like getting the ball out wide to our wingers and getting Sess [Stephane Sessegnon] on the ball.”
