thumbnail Hello,

The Cottagers pulled off a coup with the acquisition of Mahamadou Diarra last season and are hoping to repeat that trick in order to bolster their limited options in the middle

Fulham boss Martin Jol is preparing to delve into the free transfer market yet again in order to bolster his depleted midfield.

The Cottagers allowed Mousa Dembele, Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu all to leave this summer without any major replacements and, with the injured Mahamadou Diarra now out for up to six months, options are looking decidedly thin on the ground in the centre of the park.

Jol partnered utility man Chris Baird with Steve Sidwell in midfield for the recent wins over West Brom and Wigan but the former Spurs boss may look to follow up his recent acquisition of previously unattached Greek veteran Giorgos Karagounis with a similar swoop.

BERBA HAUNTS MANCINI

He told the Fulham Chronicle: "As you know when there was an opportunity with Karagounis we did that, there was an opportunity last year with Diarra and we did that. If there's an opportunity to get a good player in we will do that."

The likes of Thomas Hitzelsperger, Nigel Reo-Coker and Owen Hargreaves are all currently available players to whom Jol could look.
