Giroud not concerned by lack of Arsenal goals

The Gunners forward has defended his recent performances for his new club saying that he will improve with more game time and adds that he is enjoying playing in a winning team

Olivier Giroud insists he is not worried by his form for Arsenal despite not scoring for the club since his summer move from French champions Montpellier.

Giroud returned to his former club in the Champions League on Tuesday night, as the Gunners claimed a 2-1 win, but the striker was once again not on the scoresheet.

However the Frenchman is remaining calm and thinks once he is fully match-fit then the goals will begin to flow.

“Look I didn’t get the goal which would have helped me and definitely kick-started my season, but I was decisive by providing an assist for Lukas Podolski,” he told reporters after Tuesday night's win in the south of France.

“I’m still lacking a bit of rhythm, so it's hard to play 90 minutes. But I will be better, I have to keep playing big games.

“We have a good team and the competition between the players is healthy.

“We play a lot of games so I’m not worried. I will keep training hard but I remain confident.
ON TARGET AT LAST?
10/3 Olivier Giroud is 10/3 to score anytime against Manchester City with William Hill

“It’s a real pleasure as we are winning - it’s really nice.”

Giroud scored 33 goals in 72 games for Montpellier in the past two campaigns, and was a vital part of the side which fought off the financial might of Paris St Germain to claim the French league title last season.

The striker was given a good reception by the club’s fans on his first return to La Paillade, and admitted that he was pleased the supporters still appreciated his efforts for the side despite his summer transfer.

“I tried to stay really focussed before the game,” he added. “I didn’t wander about, I wanted to keep my mind on the pitch and I did that pretty well.

“Tonight we got the win and I was really happy the supporters here were behind me.”
