Fiorentina director expresses regret over failure to sign Berbatov

Director Daniele Prade has taken to Twitter to reveal his disappointment after the Italian side missed out on the Bulgarian striker who left Manchester United for Fulham
Fiorentina's sporting director Daniele Prade has tweeted his frustration after the club missed out on securing the services of Dimitar Berbatov.

The Florence outfit were reportedly close to sealing the Bulgarian's signature, however talks between the two sides broke down, with the 31-year-old eventually opting to join former manager Martin Jol at Fulham despite holding talks with Serie A champions Juventus.

Berbatov's decision to remain in England sparked a furious reaction from Fiorentina officials, and led them to release a statement which declared that the former Bayer Leverkusen man "did not deserve" to wear the club's shirt.

Prade last week announced that the club will look to pursue Berbatov for funds outlaid to cover his travel expenses during their chase to sign him.

However, he now appears to have altered his stance on the matter, taking to social networking site Twitter to express his regret at their failure to agree a deal.

He tweeted: "He [Berbatov] said on 28th July he wanted to join Fiorentina, but he changed his mind. He is our biggest regret."
